At Deer Valley Dental Care in SE Calgary, we provide dental implants to help restore the appearance and functionality of your smile.
Dental implants are designed to provide foundation for replacement teeth. Patients may enjoy more freedom and flexibility by regaining the ability to eat many of the foods they have had to avoid. Teeth appear natural. Facial contours are preserved.
The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts. They are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes surgically placed into the jawbone.
The bone then bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.
Dental implants can replace the missing tooth or teeth in a way that functions as close as your real teeth as possible.
When considering dental implant treatment, there are options to fit everyone’s budget. The replacement teeth that you choose will determine the overall cost of your implant treatment.
Fees start at less than a thousand dollars for mini implants. Full implants cost more, usually similar to the cost of a bridge. Bone grafting may be required.
A prosthetic option for replacing missing teeth is the non-removable or fixed option. Here we replace and reconstruct missing or soon to be lost teeth with teeth that cannot be removed by the patient.
Sometimes replacement teeth will be supported by implants and gum tissue. The patient may endure some movement of the replacement tooth.
Removable tooth replacements are made to attach to the supporting implants in various ways. Dentists may use rubber ring attachments, small clips, magnets or other customized precision type attachment devices.
These types of replacement teeth are removed by the patient at home for daily cleaning. With non-removable replacement teeth, this is not necessary. Replacement teeth are brushed just like natural teeth.
Once the tooth root replacement implants have healed in the bone and are ready to support the replacement teeth, we begin the second stage treatment. This involves tooth replacement procedures for fixed or removable tooth replacements.
There are implants that help hold full dentures in place. The dentures still can be removed but when they are in, they can be clipped onto the implants to hold the denture in tight.
Are You a Candidate for Implants?
If you are considering implants, your mouth must first be examined thoroughly. Your medical and dental history will be reviewed too. If your mouth is not ideal for implants, other procedures, such as bone grafting, may be recommended.
What Type of Anesthesia is Used?
The majority of dental implants and bone graft can be performed in our dental clinic in Calgary under local anesthesia (freezing) and sedation is available for nervous patients.
Do Implants Need Special Care?
Take care of your implants and teeth and keep your mouth healthy. This means taking the time for good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing). Ensure to keep your regular hygiene and maintenance appointments.
